Deposit Funding Compass Week of January 24, 2024

Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President Mary Daly said it’s “premature” to think interest-rate cuts are around the corner, noting she needs to see more evidence that inflation is on a consistent trajectory back to 2% before easing policy.  The FOMC is anticipated to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged for a fourth straight meeting on Jan. 30-31. Odds of a March cut have notably eased since Governor Christopher Waller said earlier this week that policy moves should be “carefully calibrated and not rushed.”

Investors began to push back against CD yields not maintaining pace with the recent run up in treasury rates with volume or “flows” coming in on the lighter end of things this past week. Issuance count remains strong with no shortage of participants.  Today’s compass funding opportunities reflect aggressive yet realistic pricing as indicated by our confidence to “firm” or takedown the first 1-2mm of the levels indicated below.
